Since joining KQED in 1990 as General Manager of Radio, Jo Anne Wallace has led the expansion of KQED’s nationally-acquired and locally-produced news and information service for the Bay Area region. Today, KQED Public Radio is one of the most listened-to public radio stations in the nation, and its digital audience is growing with audio streaming and on-demand and social media content. In 2014, she was asked to take on additional responsibilities as Vice President of Television and Radio Programming.

During the 1980s, Wallace was Director of Administration and Planning in the NPR News division in Washington. She was responsible for the division’s financial planning and participated in its program development, including the acquisition of CAR TALK and Fresh Air and the new productions of NPR’s Weekend Edition Saturday and Weekend Edition Sunday.

Representing KQED, Wallace has served on national and regional boards. Beginning in 1998, she served two terms on the NPR Board and was appointed Vice Chair and Membership Committee Chair during that time. In 2015, she was re-elected to the NPR Board to serve a new term. She currently serves as a member of the Station Resource Group Board. She is the recipient of the Leo C. Lee Award from Public Radio News Directors, Inc., and an American Women in Radio and Television Award, Golden Gate Chapter. In 2014, she was inducted into the Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame.
