Ellen McDonnell Consulting LLC
CEO
With more than 30 years in executive leadership experience in public media, much of Ellen McDonnell's work has been creating news programming. After serving as Executive Producer of Morning Edition for 10 years, she became Executive Editor/Director of all news programming at NPR and was instrumental in the creation of Code Switch. She has significant experience coaching women and people of color in leadership and management. Following a 35 year career at NPR, she retired, and soon discovered she had "too much juice" to stay out of the game. She set up a consulting business, and her clients include StoryCorps and Youth Radio. McDonnell loves coaching new managers, helping news departments set priorities, and designing retreats for news teams. Her passion is advising news leaders on creating an environment where a wide array of cultures, experiences, and viewpoints are a natural part of a newsroom.
